Uncharted Waters Online: A Detailed Open Beta Review

Moving around town couldn't be easier

A lot of games seem to be using UWO Gold nowadays and it's great. That is the auto-walk system. Whether it comes in the shape of you being able to auto walk to your next quest destination, or even just being able to go to a location clicked on the map without having a click fest, it's a great feature to have. Luckily Uncharted Waters Online included this in the design. When you click the mini map a larger version will pop up. From there you can click on a location and walk to the destination. Another plus of the map system is even though it lacks in some more detailed features other games have such as searching for npcs by names or organizing the map to only show certain locations, you can find the location you want by highlighting the different icons on it. The icons are also a clear representation of what the icon may be without seeing the name. Honestly I like the simplistic design of it, and I don't think it needs to be too detailed since you won't be spending all of your time in the towns. At least I won't be. There is one thing I do find odd about the map system however. In the tutorial missions there are quest markers on the map showing you where the instructor is located in town. However as you progress in the game I noticed those same markers lacking in my other quests. If I need Uncharted Waters Online Gold to deliver a letter to so-and-so in that place, well I have to look for him on my own; there isn't an indicator to where he is in town. Now since a lot of towns aren't that huge and the names usually give you a general idea to where said person is, it would have been nice to have a marker to walk directly to him.

Wait, which way am I sailing again??

When you first start sailing, the controls are a bit awkward, at least for me. This may be because of games like Voyage Century/Bounty Bay. Let me explain, in those games the way you turn your boat in battles is that you hold the button down for the direction you wish to go. If you want to turn left, hold it down till your ship turns that way. In Uncharted Waters Online it is a bit different. As you hold down the button a marker on a compass shaped dial will turn. When it lands on the direction you want to face, you stop there. Now if you hold down the button like how I am used to from the aforementioned games, you will end up going in circles. So if you don't pay attention it could take some getting used to master the controls of sailing and battling at sea. I don't blame the game for this, more that I was spoiled by Voyage Century's
